LCME mourns sad loss of Dr David Henson
Dear LCME Community,
It is with profound sadness that I have to announce that our esteemed and long-standing colleague, Dr David Henson, passed away last night (Thursday 18 January 2024).
Throughout his career, in addition to his performing and directing, David was at the cutting edge of the development of the Performing Arts in education, particularly at London College of Music (LCM). His contribution to the world of Performing Arts was immense and ensures a significant, valuable and enduring legacy. As well as LCM, he worked at numerous other respected Performing Arts institutions, serving generations of students and truly changing the pedagogy of teaching in the arts for the better.
Whether you knew him through his teaching, performing, directing, writing, publications, or through his very recent work with London College of Music Examinations (LCME) and the new Musical Theatre Syllabus development, his passion and vision for his metier always shone through. You will have been struck by his in-depth knowledge and experience, his pursuit of excellence and his inspirational style. And, of course, his warm personality and punctilious good manners.
He will be sadly missed by staff, students, alumni and friends at the University of West London, LCM and LCME.
Kind regards,
Professor Peter John CBE
Vice-Chancellor and President
University of West London
