Pablo Martínez brings LCME musical theatre exams to Spain

For the past decade, Pablo Martínez has been bringing LCME Musical Theatre qualifications to students across Spain, helping to professionalise an art form that continues to grow in popularity throughout the country.

As director of the Liceo Municipal de la Música de Moguer, Pablo has built a thriving centre where young performers can develop their craft with the structure and recognition that LCME qualifications provide.

Meeting a gap in Spanish musical theatre education

When Pablo first partnered with LCME ten years ago, he identified a crucial need in the Spanish performing arts landscape. "We chose to work with LCME due to the lack of specific Musical Theatre studies in Spain and the need for both parents and students to have a structured, level-based system that helps guide and assess the students' progress," he explains.

That structured approach has proven transformative for students at the centre. "They state that it is a very positive experience because it increases their level of concentration and preparation in their studies," Pablo shares.

The power of international recognition

For families investing in their children's artistic education, the LCME name carries significant weight. "We offer assurance to students who choose to study at our centre thanks to the prestige and influence of the West End brand and connection with the University of West London," Pablo explains. "When parents invest in their children's education, they appreciate having an official document that certifies their achievement."

The centre's wonderful facilities and vibrant artistic activity throughout the year provide the perfect environment for students to prepare for their LCME examinations and pursue their performing dreams.

Success on Madrid's stages

The results speak for themselves. Students from the Liceo Municipal de la Música de Moguer have gone on to perform in professional productions on Madrid's prestigious Gran Vía, including Noelia Rincón and Elena Cremades. Others have launched their own amateur musical theatre projects, spreading their passion for performance throughout their communities.

Looking to the future

Pablo recognises the growing appetite for musical theatre education across Spain. With Madrid hosting at least twelve musicals every year, the need for qualified professionals continues to grow. "There is a growing audience of musical theatre students across the country," he notes. "It is essential to strengthen training and to promote greater awareness of educational systems that can help professionalise productions in Madrid."

As musical theatre continues to flourish in Spain, Pablo also highlights an interesting challenge unique to the Spanish market. "In Spain, audiences generally do not consume entertainment in English, and casting calls increasingly require candidates to perform songs in Spanish," he observes. "Speaking and singing in Spanish is very different from doing so in English - the vocal placement is completely different."

Through his decade of partnership with LCME, Pablo Martínez has helped establish a foundation for excellence in Spanish musical theatre education, creating pathways for students to achieve their performing ambitions with internationally recognised qualifications.
