Espaço Prof Khris Canto brings harmonic and melodic excellence to Brazil

In Brazil, where percussion rhythms dominate the musical landscape, Espaço Prof Khris Canto is on a mission to nurture harmonic and melodic musical education. Led by CEO Khris Zacareli, this dynamic music school has recently joined the LCME community as an exam centre, bringing internationally recognised qualifications to their students.

Connecting generations through music

Khris and his team believe deeply in music's power to bridge divides and foster connections. "We believe that music connects people," Khris explains. "It's important to pass on to new generations our experiences as performers, along with all the theory and rules about music to help them be creative and develop logical thinking faster."

The school offers a comprehensive range of instrumental training, covering piano (both classical and popular), bass, guitar, electric guitar, keyboard, ukulele, and vocals.

Facing challenges and embracing opportunities in Brazil

While Brazil has a rich percussion tradition, Khris notes that harmonic and melodic music education faces challenges in the digital age. "Percussion in Brazil is a very rich field, but nowadays, harmonic and melodic music are not growing as much. We believe we are part of the change to make better songs and performances."

The school faces unique challenges that many music educators worldwide will recognise. "The challenges come from the internet, which should be something positive but sometimes makes learning to play music seem less interesting," Khris observes. However, he remains optimistic about the opportunities ahead: "The opportunities come as we move closer to people, young and old alike, inviting them to try. To make sound, to feel their own sound – and they've been open to it."

Finding a perfect match in LCME

The decision to become an LCME exam centre came after careful consideration. "I was looking for something that would be great, and then, during this search, I found something truly great – LCME," Khris shares enthusiastically. "I liked the way grades are structured for the instruments, and I saw the possibility of entering digital exams. We're excited about getting started."

Espaço Prof Khris Canto provides its students with comfortable, focused environments for exams. "We set aside a room where the student feels comfortable, sometimes the classroom itself," explains Khris. "However, we also have a mini studio room and an auditorium available. We remove anything that won't be used and focus on providing comfort for the student's performance."

Developing professional musicians

The school has a proven track record of nurturing musical talent. "We've had a guitarist who scored 96 (distinction) with our previous exam board, and now he's working with us and wants to continue to Grade 8 with LCME," Khris proudly shares. "We've been graduating many professional musicians – both singers and instrumentalists. We're proud of who we develop here."

Khris and his team see LCME qualifications as a natural progression in their mission to develop musical talent in Brazil. "We are happy to be part of LCME, and we hope to get many students to develop their talents and show them to the world," he concludes.
