Discover the LCME 2026 Electronic Keyboard syllabus

LCME's refreshed Electronic Keyboard syllabus launches on 14 January 2026, offering a modern, digital-first approach designed to inspire keyboardists at every level.

What's included

The syllabus provides a clear progression for all abilities, from Pre-Grade 1 (Steps 1 and 2) through Grades 1–8 to performance diplomas at four levels (DipLCM, ALCM, LLCM and FLCM).

Two assessment options are available, both offered as in-person or digital exams:

  • Graded exam – Performance, technical work, an accompanying or chord sequence test, discussion and aural tests
  • Recital grade – A performance-focused option with flexibility in repertoire and supporting components

What's new for 2026

  • Digital-first access – All set pieces available as individual downloads, with free specimen test booklets for scales, chords and aural tests
  • Fresh repertoire – Explore Lists A and B featuring curated new pieces alongside returning favourites, plus suggested own-choice pieces based on lead sheets covering everything from Beethoven to Taylor Swift
  • Streamlined assessment – Updated accompanying test and a refined exam structure

Please note that Leisure Play is no longer available for electronic keyboard under this new 2026 syllabus.

Transition period

The 2021 Electronic Keyboard syllabus remains valid until 31 January 2027, giving candidates and teachers a 12-month overlap period to prepare for the changes.
