London College of Music Examinations (LCME) believes that everyone should have access to quality education and assessment. On 1 March 2023, LCME launched its new 2023 fees for In-Person Exams, Digital Recorded Exams, and Digital Live Exams, to make exams more accessible for candidates globally.
LCME currently operates in over 90 countries across every continent of the world. With the new structure, LCME has adapted its fees to the economic circumstances of each country.
For Digital Recorded Exams and Digital Live Exams, countries are categorised into four fee zones. For example, G8 countries like the UK, USA and France are listed in ‘Zone 1’, with a Grade 2 Digital Live Exam costing £54. Whilst developing nations like Mali, Rwanda and Sudan are categorised as ‘Zone 4’, meaning a Grade 2 Digital Live Exam costs £32.
As in previous years, fees for In-Person Exams remain priced on a country-by-country basis.
Dr Jonathan Drennan, Head of LCME & Chief Examiner, said, “LCME is the only music examination board that is part of a British university, the University of West London (UWL). And one of the core missions of both LCME and UWL is to bring education to the world.
“We understand that many barriers stop people from achieving their music, performance, and education ambitions in today’s world, from geographical issues like not having an exam centre in your local area to challenges with the cost of living.
“Diversifying how people can take their exams, with both Digital Live Exams and Digital Recorded Exams, is one way to make things more accessible. However, we also understand that many students globally who would benefit from digital exams may be unable to afford them. That is why we have created a fairer fee structure that considers the economic situation of specific countries and regions based on factors such as average salaries, cost of living and other benchmarks.
“LCME’s new fee structure will make it easier for all candidates to access quality education and assessment at competitive prices.”
The new LCME fees went live on 1 March 2023 and are available on the LCME website here.
