London College of Music Examinations and FutureDJs have partnered up to bring you the world’s first ever officially accredited DJ syllabus.
With a wide selection of genres and exam options to suit every individual, LCME and FutureDJs are committed to enabling everyone to learn and play the music they enjoy. Students will discover the inner workings of music, from rhythm and dynamics to pitch and texture. With the expertise of FutureDJs, students will go from understanding the basic building blocks of the DJ’s craft to discovering their own musical instincts and building the confidence to perform.
Three levels of assessment:
DEBUT (Grade 1) The Debut handbook (equivalent to grade 1) contains all of the material that is needed to take an LCME DJ Debut exam, including: understanding the sounds and culture of electronic music; becoming familiar with decks, mixers and signal flow; identifying how to mix between tracks and beat matching.
BREAKTHROUGH (Grade 3) The Breakthrough handbook (equivalent to grade 3) contains all of the material that is needed to take an LCME DJ Breakthrough exam, including: developing knowledge of the equipment features and functions; becoming a more creative mixer and mastering techniques like transitioning, spinbacks and filters.
ARTIST (Grade 5) The Artist handbook (equivalent to grade 5) contains all of the material that is needed to take an LCME DJ Artist exam, including: essential open format DJ-ing skills; using effects to create moods in mixing; developing flair with techniques like advanced scratching and looping; building the confidence to find a personal style and sound and becoming ready to play for an audience.
